This question seems to pop up all the time, are YouTube creators still dominating the space? I think it’s an interesting question and one that can be dissected in many ways.

Over the weekend, the infamous YouTube group Sidemen released the eagerly anticipated roast where a series of YouTube and non-YT comedians went on to roast the members of the sidemen. Within 26 minutes they’d had over 250,000 views. Over a space of 19 hours, they’ve had up to 4.3million views and counting!

But how much are they really making from this?

Simon from the Sidemen recently discussed his earnings in a clip with Kick Game where he stated that for his diss track (a song produced to mock another youtuber) (link below) which had approximately 69M views earnt him £80,000.

KSI then went on to discuss (link below) that with 9.2M followers on TikTok and over 70.8M likes in total on TikTok, he earnt just £3,000 in one year.

However, he did go on to discuss strategies.

TikTok is all about batch content. The creator needs to be producing lots and lots of content to rack up views and likes. However, YouTube is about following, time, quality content and CPM (cost per thousand). Who is viewing your content, are they genuine engagers? Will they buy?

It is difficult to make a general comparison between the earnings of YouTube creators and TikTok creators, as there are a number of factors that can influence how much money each platform pays its creators.

In terms of audience size, YouTube has a larger user base than TikTok, which means that popular YouTube creators have the potential to reach a larger audience and earn more money through ad revenue, sponsorships, and merchandise sales. Additionally, YouTube creators have more control over their content and can create longer, more in-depth videos that may attract a more dedicated following.

However, TikTok is known for its virality and the potential for content to quickly go viral and gain millions of views. This can result in a large influx of followers and potential revenue for TikTok creators who are able to create content that resonates with a wide audience.

Our final thoughts…Ultimately, the amount of money that a creator earns on either platform depends on a variety of factors, including their content quality, engagement rate, and the demographics of their audience. It's important to note that earnings can vary widely even within the same platform, as there are many creators with varying levels of success on both YouTube and TikTok.
